Camp at Watkins Glen state park.
Drive to Watkins Glen after the show - about 1 hour away.
Wake up early and explore the gorge at Watkins Glen.
Leave around 10am for the 5 hour drive to Phily.

Whether you stay at Watkins Glen or not, you should find time to check out Watkins Glen State Park out either before or after the show. Incredible place.

Within two miles, the glen's stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls along its course. The gorge path winds over and under waterfalls and through the spray of Cavern Cascade. Rim trails overlook the gorge.
Takin' it in stride!

Wow! You did the whole trail. Yeah, that'll take it out of you.

The hike can be a little difficult. You're either walking up hill then back down, or the opposite. But it is nice and cooler in the gorge, with lots of shade.

If you camp in the park, the campgrounds (Onondaga is best) are right in the middle of the gorge, so you can hit the good spots in the middle.

If you don't camp, then park at the bottom, at the main entrance off highway 14. That way you're walking uphill at the beginning and downhill on the way back, and the coolest stuff is in the lower half of the gorge.

Thanks for all the great info. Just this morning I was talking to a FFF member about where to stay before and after CMAC. We are heading towards Philly after the show, but we want to come up a day early. He mentioned he wanted to see Watkins Glen. I figured he was talking about seeing a memorial to the old festival site. Boy was I wrong. That looks amazingly cool! Great picture. Yes, we can discover the wonders of nature....
