i heard the same thing about the vibes being fri. night being the "dead night" with alll but billy playing, but who knows.
i cnat imagine, they wont come out on stage together if they are all there the same night.
that would be dumber than the stones not touring on their 50th an.
vibes will be the east coast event that will hopefully produce a falll furthur fest with all the boys bands, and a jam at the end.
i still want my ratdog tour. so nananaboobooo.
But now currently, Friday 7/20/12 at the Vibes has everyone scheduled but Mickey. This is a breakdown of when and where the groups are playing from 7-19-12 through 7-22-12:
7-19-12 All Good: Phil Lesh & Friends; Bob Weir & Bruce Hornsby (and the Noisemakers) featuring special guest Branford Marsalis
7-20-12 Gathering of the Vibes: Phil Lesh & Friends; Bob Weir & Bruce Hornsby (and the Noisemakers) featuring special guest Branford Marsalis; 7 Walkers
7-21-12 Gathering of the Vibes: Mickey Hart Band
7-22-12 All Good: Mickey Hart Band-

I suppose Mickey could always arrive a day early and show up at the end of Friday night 7/20/12 for a nice Superjam
. There's a brief quote discussing the potential of a Dead reunion in this Billboard article: www.billboard.com/news/gathering-of-the-...fan-1006635952.story
But neither [Vibes founder Ken] Hays nor Hart would commit to the Dead members playing together in any way since they'll all be in attendance. "You just never know," Hays says. "They're all getting along beautifully together and making incredible music. I think all that we can do is lay out the framework and let the possibilities and their inspiration decide." Hart adds that "everyone's doing what they really want to do and really enjoying it. Everybody's having a good musical life. I'm always up to play with (the others); then the times right, perhaps that'll happen."Last Edit: 1 year, 1 month ago by Gordon the Drummer.-

Found one more reference to confirm that The Noisemakers will be part of the Weir/Hornsby/Marsalis set:
www.ctpost.com/news/article/Weir-Hornsby...s-lineup-3453926.php
"Having all of the surviving members of the [Grateful Dead] with us is an honor and a privilege," Vibes founder and owner Ken Hays said Monday. "Having Bob Weir with Bruce Hornsby's band and special guest Branford Marsalis brings a diversity that I think people are going to enjoy. It's exciting. It's a really cool project that Bob and Bruce have put together."
At this point I'm willing to bet that Weir also sits in for one or more songs with Hornsby and the Noisemakers at Wanee 4/20/12. That is going to be one heckuva day of music as well, with Furthur, Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers, Mickey Hart Band, and the ABB all playing.Last Edit: 1 year, 1 month ago by Gordon the Drummer.-

Reviews of Weir, Hornsby, Marsalis and the Noisemakers @ All Good 7/19/12:
www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/all-go...trampled-by-turtles/
The set by Bob Weir, Bruce Hornsby and Branford Marsalis was an exquisite blending of jazz and rock in the Birdsong > Dark Star opener. Their takes on Franklin’s Tower impressed Dead fans while satisfying jazz jam enthusiasts as both elements were manifest, largely thanks to Marsalis flawless timing. The show was a highlight for man with Hornsby getting more into the game with Great Divide and King & Big Boss Man. Additional set highlights included a soaring Scarlet/Fire and Sugaree, and the Jack Straw set closer left the audience wanting more.

We made it in time to see Weir, Hornsby, and Marsalis. It started rough...with Bobby on an acoustic that sounded awful. Lots of noodling into "Birdsong." Some very nice playing by Branford, but it was too loose in many spots. This went on for a while, and then Bruce brought out The Noisemakers. What a tight band. I recall "Jack Straw," "Scarlet Begonias," "Rainbow's Cadillac (or however you spell it)" "Across the Great Divide," "Frankin's Tower," and "Hell in a Bucket." That's where my memory stalls. A highlight was seeing Bruce sing The Dead's "Loser." Some superlative jamming in the show involving real risk-taking as opposed to just playing long solos. Bruce's drummer, Booby Reed on sax, and Branford on sax all got the MVP award. I especially dug it when Branford broke out the soprano sax. He even quoted some Coltrane. Nice.

SAX APPEAL AT VIBES
Fresh off stage after performing with Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir and Bruce Hornsby, sax great Branford Marsalis arrived at the media tent to give his thoughts on the show, among other things.
"It's really an adventure," he said of the largely unscripted show. "We don't really know what we're going to do."
Especially when their set started.
"I didn't know what the hell (Weir and Hornsby) were playing," Marsalis said. "Bruce did, but I had no idea.
"There's no sheet music or anything like that, but it's kind of what I do. Growing up and learning to play in New Orleans, I'm used to that."
Though he said he "hasn't played festivals in years," it's not because Marsalis doesn't like them. In fact, he's a fan of the events.
"The spectacle of a festival is amazing," he said. "The energy of 25,000 or 30,000 or 50,000 people, you can't generate that kind of energy anywhere else.
"And an audience like this one (at the Vibes), they tend to listen more and are more open to accepting the music."-

I gathered together some thoughts on the two BBB sets after I got the chance to play both of them back on my home stereo as a 3-CD set (the first 5 tracks from GOTV will fit onto All Good Disc 2). Well, I loved both performances and thought that they come across a lot like the great-as-always Noisemakers shows, but with more Grateful Dead covers than usual and two notable special guests, Weir and Marsalis (virtually unrehearsed but ready for anything) sitting in.
The All Good BBB set has an incredible amount of energy and plenty of fun surprises (tasty musical "quotes" of Coltrane's "Love Supreme" & Band of Gypsys' "Who Knows?," and also a nice stratospheric Weir guitar solo in "Rainbow's Cadillac"); the guys are obviously having a good time onstage, and the audience seems most fired up on this night. There's plenty of experimentation, though it's more of a rocking dance show. I definitely loved it, though I may have to give a slight edge to the next night's set.
The Vibes set seems somewhat more cohesive, and I could feel a definite "buildup" throughout the performance leading to the most intense part of the show, Standing on the Moon > The Other One > Playing in the Band. This set seems heavier on the psychedelia than the one from the previous night, and Weir's voice might be a little stronger too. I couldn't really ask for more from a post-Garcia show.
Bruce and his band, with their chops, musicality, and humor, blow me away, and this collaboration with Weir is very much worth continuing, in my opinion. It's another fun option for enjoying live Grateful Dead music in the 21st century. Bruce has said that these festivals are good exposure for his bandmates, and I think a Noisemakers/Weir tour would provide plenty more good exposure if they ever decided to do such a thing. I know I'd be up for it. -
