David Gans is a household name for many musical fans around the area. Not only is he the host of the nationally syndicated radio show "Dead to the World" on Berkeley's KPFA- he is also a nationally touring solo musician. He recently performed on Jam Cruise, out of Ft. Lauderdale, and jammed in a superband with Steve Kimock, George Porter Jr., Robert Walter, and Karl
Denson. In addition to his solo act, David Gans is also a member of the popular group Rubber Souldiers, with the Lorin Brothers.
The Dedicated Maniacs are a group of Bay Area musicians inspired by the Psychedelic Cowboy and Roots music of the New Riders of the Purple Sage, Grateful Dead, The Band, David Nelson Band, Willie Nelson, Gram Parsons etc. They actively utilize their improvisational and general weirdness skills in their original material- and to reinterpret the classic American roots music catalog.
David Gans will open the show solo, and then be joined by San Francisco's Dedicated Maniacs- performing powerful
full-band versions of David Gans solo material (much of it written by Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter), as well as
original selections from the Dedicated Maniacs canon. This collaboration has been performing around the Bay Area, as evidenced by a recent performance at Ashkenaz in Berkeley- you can listen to the show here: www.archive.org/details/dm2011-01-26. Listen to the tracks "Riverand Drown" and "Like A Dog" for an idea of what to expect on this tour!
