What a spectacular selection of albums! You just can't go wrong with The Band's 2nd album (self titled, but also commonly referred to as the "Browm Album") and Workingman's Dead. It was not a flawless performance by anyone's measure. Even Phil jokingly referred to the show as "loose and a bit sloppy", but it was all heart. It was a beautiful tribute to Levon, a perfect 1st set for the 1st Ramble, and they rocked it GD style for a spirited 2nd set. Nicely done! Two thumbs up!! Thank you!!!

Listening to that would have given me flashbacks of being a high school kid sneaking one hitters on the attic steps at my childhood home.

i have never been to a show where they played an entire album.
i know furthur did it at the first furthur fest(you know the first on with the band furthur not, like 96) and i now phish does it on halloween, but its a bit of a suprize with phish, they keep you guesin, till showtime.
kinda like phil did this time.
my thinking is this, does it kill some of the in the momentness. now, i know furthur has setlist they stick to, but we also know that sometimes they dont. and that is usually magical.
im sure if i was there i would have dug it. and i know there is a billion ways to play each song. i guese its likee setting limits, to see how much you can do with that matirial.
anyway.

I'm keeping my GD Radio tuned in all weekend. I will send a reply if they "Make My Day" again with another gem of a capture using the latest technology installed at "The TerrapinCrossroads bar". The Sky's the Limit.......

here is a link to a RS review, and the article includes Phil's dedication to Levon... good stuff!

www.rollingstone.com/music/news/phil-les...120511#ixzz1ub5142xt

Here is Lesh's complete dedication to Helm:

I've been planning to do the album you're about to hear before Levon passed, as the inspiration for these Rambles and for this whole place comes directly from him.

When I played Levon's Midnight Ramble with my boys Grahame and Brian, along with Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, a couple years back, I was so taken with the family atmosphere – breaking bread together in his kitchen and then walking through the kitchen door right onto the stage to play; Levon playing and singing with his daughter Amy, me with my boys.

I knew that I wanted to do something similar here at home. I spoke to Levon about it and sought his blessing, as it were – and he was very enthusiastic. He spoke of trading shows: we would go there, he would come here to play – family and friends making music together. He talked about acoustics and the woodwork, but really it was his big warm open heart that made the Barn so special.

So much of our vision comes from there – an intimate setting, collaboration with different musicians, multi-generationally friendly. It's safe to say that this place would not exist if not for Levon's example and encouragement. I'd like to dedicate not just the show, or the next show, or everything we do here, but the whole place, to Levon Helm.
